First Grant Awarded

In November 2024, the Spirit of Nicholas Sailing Fund Advisors announced the first grant award of $5,000 to Key School's Varsity and JV Sailing Teams.  Nicholas sailed competitively at Key for four years.  "We are deeply honored to receive this grant," said Key School Athletic Director Brian Boyd.  Nicholas' passion for sailing and his leadership as Captain of our team left a lasting impact on our school community. This generous support will help us continue to build that legacy, providing sailors with the tools and opportunities to excel both on the water and in STEM education."

Maritime/STEM Education

We support non-profit organizations and schools who encourage youth to actively participate in maritime and STEM educational opportunities.

Funding will provide financial assistance for maritime industry expositions and STEM and technology programs and seminars and scholarships to encourage participation.

Our Purpose

In partnership with the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, the Spirit of Nicholas Sailing Fund is dedicated to inspire future generations of sailors to learn to love sailing, creating a lasting legacy in honor of Nicholas Papadopoulos.  Nicholas' passion for sailing--the social, technical and competitive nature--will carry on by supporting non-profit organizations and schools who provide junior sailing programs, team and fleet racing, and related maritime and STEM educational activities in Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay.

The Donor Advised Fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) together with the Sailing Fund Advisors to determine where the grants will be rewarded annually.  The fund will seek contributions from donors and fundraisers will be held independently to sustain the endowment.

Sailing made a positive impact on Nicholas and we are committed to supporting the many organizations and schools he benefited from.  To see the a list of the organizations we support, visit the Support page.
